What exactly is PANAT LAPTOOL®?
PANAT LAPTOOL® is a training system for arm and hand rehabilitation that can be adapted to your individual progress. It was specifically developed for people with arm paralysis following a stroke or similar neurological events. All tools are modular and can be flexibly combined depending on the training goal. You can start training early, even if mobility is severely limited. Through targeted repetition, you promote the active use of the affected side and prevent it from being neglected in everyday life. The LAPTOOLs® accompany you from the initial movement attempts to complex activities of daily living. This allows you to train meaningfully, effectively, and sustainably, with or without the support of therapists.
The Name
What does the name PANAT mean?
PANAT stands for “Pro-Active Approach to Neurorehabilitation integrating air splints and other therapy tools.” The name says it all, because this is about actively helping to shape the rehabilitation process. This means: you don’t remain passive, but practice in a targeted, self-determined way with a clear perspective on your therapy goal.
This means that you and your therapists can plan the training in advance and make scientifically sound decisions. The content is based on your individual condition, your goals, and the best possible relevance to everyday life. The tools thus not only strengthen your muscles but also promote your motivation and personal responsibility in the rehab process.
History
The History of PANAT LAPTOOL®
Development began in 2005 in the wood workshop of the Hand in Hand therapy center in Zurich. The idea: to build simple but well-thought-out exercise devices that severely affected patients can use independently. With every new patient experience, the system was expanded and refined.
In 2011, the design was further developed together with professional designers. From 2012, production by social enterprises followed, along with initial awards, use in rehab clinics, and soon abroad as well. In 2013, a complete LAPTOOL® set was even included in the collection of the Museum of Design in Zurich.
Today, PANAT LAPTOOL® stands for creative therapy, patient-centered design, and therapeutic effectiveness.
